THREE STEPS TO FEEL AT HOME
Download and install.
Open the installer and choose your installation folder. Updates preserve your existing Barside library.
Create your first workspace.
Choose a name and color. Add a note, paste a screenshot, or save a bookmark.
Find your edge.
Drag a note toward a monitor edge, or choose Dock desktop bar. Double-click a collapsed tab to open it.
About this early release
The Windows installer is not yet code-signed, so Windows may show an unrecognized-publisher warning. Download only from this official page and verify the SHA-256 below if needed. Code signing is not included in this release.

Open the book icon in Barside. Set up the local search model under Sources; local and Gateway reasoning are configured in Assistant settings. Existing MCP connections remain available.
A few things to know.
Does Barside work offline?
Your notes, bookmarks, and local media remain available offline. Opening websites, downloading AI models, cloud AI, and remote MCP connections require the relevant network services.
Do I need an AI subscription?
No subscription is needed to take notes. Optional AI features can use local open-source models after setup, or your configured API provider. An external AI app may require its own plan and permissions.
How do I move to a new computer?
Use Settings → Export backup, then Restore backup on the other computer. The ZIP contains notes, media, bookmarks, and preferences. Passwords use a separate encrypted export; generate new MCP connections on the new PC.
What happens when I close Barside?
Closing the main window keeps Barside in the Windows system tray. Quit from the tray to fully exit. Reminders and remote connections require Barside to be running; startup behavior is configurable in Settings.
