What Barside does

  • Notes: Notes that hold everything

Write with headings, checklists, tables, code and links. Paste a screenshot or drop in images, video and audio.

  • Drawings: Draw anything, right in a note

The full Excalidraw editor for diagrams, flowcharts, wireframes and sketches. Drawings save into the note as you draw.

  • Note links: Notes that link to each other

Type [[ in a note to link another note, or to create one. A link always shows the note’s current title.

  • Note map: See how your notes connect

The note map shows every linked note as a dot and every [[ link as a line. It has its own place in the sidebar.

  • Tasks: Every checklist on one board

Every checklist item from every note, on one board. Tasks are grouped by when they are due.

  • Templates: Start from a template

Pick one of six ready-made templates, or save any note as a template. Repeating notes make themselves.

  • Calendar: Your meetings next to your notes

Connect Google Calendar or Outlook with the calendar’s private iCal (ICS) address. See today and the next 7 days.

  • Import: Bring your notes with you

Move in from Notion, Obsidian, Evernote or OneNote. Check a preview before anything is imported.

  • Workspaces: A workspace for every project

Keep the notes and links for one project together. Each workspace has its own color, and its notes and tabs use it too.

  • Bookmarks: Bookmarks next to your work

Every note and workspace has its own bookmark bar with named groups. Save the tab you are looking at with one click.

  • Reminders: Reminders on the note itself

Press the bell on a note and pick a time. Choose a sound, a silent alert, or to open the note.

  • Screen recording: Record your screen into a note

Record a monitor, one window, or audio only. The recording plays right inside the note, and you can trim it or share a link.

  • Clips: Turn long videos into short clips

Cut a video by its words, add animated captions, reframe it to 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 around the speaker, add B-roll, and make an MP4. It all runs on your computer.

  • Screen text: Copy text from anything on screen

Press Alt+Shift+S and select part of any screen. Barside reads the text with the text recognition built into your computer.

  • Clipboard history: Paste what you copied earlier

Turn on clipboard history, then press Alt+Shift+V to see the text and images you copied recently. Search, pin and paste.

  • Transcription: Transcribe calls on your computer

Record your microphone and computer audio. Barside writes what people say into the note you choose, with timestamps.

  • Saved webpages: Keep a copy of any webpage

Save a public page with its layout and images. Read it inside your note, even when you are offline.

  • Reading: One inbox for what you read

Save articles and get your newsletters in one place. Barside keeps a readable copy with its pictures, so nothing loads from the web when you read.

  • AI assistant: An assistant that does the work

Type or say what you need. It edits, writes and organizes your notes, and shows each step.

  • AI agents: Agents that ask before they act

Agents do jobs for you on a schedule, after a call, or on a research question. Their actions wait in one approval inbox. Nothing is sent or changed outside Barside until you approve.

  • AI search: Ask your library a question

Search notes, Reading, bookmarks, saved pages, transcripts and screenshots on your computer. Each answer shows where it came from.

  • Library: Your day on one page

The daily briefing collects overdue reminders, open commitments, unchecked items, recent decisions and today’s events.

  • Meeting follow-through: From call to follow-up

Turn a transcript into a summary, quoted decisions, proposed tasks and a recap draft you can edit.

  • Hey Barside: Say “Hey Barside”

Turn on voice wake-up. Say the greeting, pause, then say your command.

  • Spaces: Teams and paid communities

Run a private room for your team, or charge for a community. Members get your chat, polls, shared notes, resources and files.

  • Meetings: Meet face to face, decide together

Meet on video with up to 6 people, now or at a time you schedule. In a Space, ask a question with a poll.

  • Space helper: Answers for your members

The Space helper answers member questions with the AI the owner connected. It uses only what the Space has shared, plus one workspace if the owner chooses.

  • File sharing: Files your members can open

Attach files in chat or add them to shared notes. In a paid Space, only members can open them.

  • Modes: Show only the tools you need

A switcher at the top of the sidebar, or the mode button on the desktop bar, picks the tools Barside shows. It opens in the mode you chose last.

  • Native app: Part of your desktop

Dock Barside to any edge of any monitor. On Windows and Linux, other windows make room for it, like they do for the taskbar.

  • Search bar: Find anything, from any app

Press Alt+Shift+Space in any app, or Ctrl+K in Barside. The screen dims and one box finds notes, tasks, meetings, commands and more. Press Tab to ask AI.

  • Themes: 25 themes, or make your own

A theme changes the whole app: notes, the desktop bar, Spaces and menus. Pick one here to change this page.

  • Passwords: Passwords, built in

Save a login once. Next time, choose the account and press Fill, or Copy on a Mac or Linux. You need no extension and no master password.

  • AI connections: Bring your own AI

Barside brings no AI of its own. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or OpenRouter in one click, or let your AI app work with your notes.

  • Local-first: Your library lives on your computer

Notes, media and settings live on your computer, and you do not need an account to take notes. Cloud sync is optional.
